About Helen Hampton

Helen Hampton’s career began at the age of 13 after winning a very dubious talent contest. Unfortunately 1st, 2nd and 3rd place weren’t called in reverse order as the compare expected and by the time the judges had clarified that she had won, the person coming third had already left with the prize money! After leaving school at 18, Helen moved to London where she became vocalist with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and secured her first record deal. Since then her career has taken her all over the world and has encompassed jazz, cabaret, summer seasons, musical theatre, session work, film soundtracks, backing vocals and concert engagements as well as gigging with her own band.

Helen has worked with numerous recording artistes including Michael Jackson, Alabama 3 (Sopranos), Axel F (Crazy Frog) George Benson, Bjork, Chris de Burgh, Joe Cocker, Leonard Cohen, Stephen Gately, Geri Halliwell, Il Divo, Tom Jones, Ronan Keating, Cleo Laine, Joe Longthorne, Lulu, Bobby McFerrin, Robert Palmer, Pointer Sisters, Queen, Cliff Richard, Lionel Richie, Leo Sayer, Spandau Ballet, Donna Summer, Dionne Warwick, Robbie Williams and Roy Wood. She has also sung with Des O’Connor but is not sure whether that should be counted as an achievement.

She has worked with such jazz luminaries as Oscar Peterson, Ronnie Scott, Cleo Laine, Louis Belson and was most recently at the Royal Festival Hall with Bobby McFerrin.

Helen’s TV credits include Stars in their Eyes, Pop Idol, Pop Stars, Abbamania, Barrymore, My Kind of Music, Alexei Sayle, This Morning, Warriors, The Gathering Storm, TOTP, CD-UK, An Audience with…. , Jerry Springer The Opera & Grey’s Anatomy, and she has recorded film soundtacks for The Da Vinci Code, The Mummy Returns, Red Planet, Evita, A Knight’s Tale, Tomb Raider, SinEater, Corpse Bride, Phantom Menace, Red Planet, Sleepy Hollow, Stardust and also for the film ‘Troy’ which was recorded in L.A. on the famous CBS Soundstage with producer/composer James Horner.

Helen is an award-winning songwriter, vocal coach, vocal arranger and an NLP Master Practitioner. She can also write with both hands at the same time in any direction, a talent for which she has yet to find any real use.
